Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park announced the death of Delilah over the weekend, one of its most beloved dolphins who called the park home for more than 40 years.
- The dolphin passed away peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by the animal care team who had formed lifelong bonds with her, according to a statement from the park on Saturday, July 5.
Delilah arrived at the Gulfarium in 1980 and lived to be over 50 years old. The park noted this represents a remarkable milestone, especially given that dolphins in the wild typically live between 20 and 30 years.
“Delilah leaves behind a lasting legacy that touched the lives of generations of guests and staff,” the park said in its announcement.
Delilah served as a devoted mother to Lily and grandmother to Kaya, playing a meaningful role within the park’s dolphin family. She also contributed greatly to the facility’s educational mission, according to the statement.
Throughout her decades at the Gulfarium, Delilah brought joy, wonder and inspiration to millions of visitors, the park said.
- “Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her,” the statement read.
The park expressed gratitude for community support as it honors Delilah’s life and invited everyone to reflect on the joy she brought to so many.
