The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance will host its annual Mattie Kelly Family Bay Day on September 27 at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park, offering families hands-on environmental education activities celebrating the Choctawhatchee Bay.
- The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features exploration stations, learning activities and fish printing designed for children and adults. Attendees pay only the $5 per vehicle park entrance fee.
“This event is an opportunity for families to connect with nature and gain a better understanding of the vital role the bay plays in our ecosystem,” said Alison McDowell, executive director of the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance. “We’re proud to continue our collaboration with the Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program to make environmental education accessible and fun.”
The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance partners with the Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program to organize the event. Funding comes from the Mattie Kelly Environmental Initiative through the Northwest Florida State College Foundation.
Families can explore and learn along Rocky Bayou’s shoreline during the educational program. All ages are welcome to attend the celebration of the bay’s ecological richness.
The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance works to sustain swimmable, fishable and liveable waterways in the Choctawhatchee watershed through monitoring, restoration, education and research. The organization provides education and experiences to empower locals and visitors to be good stewards of waterways, wetlands and shorelines.
