Crestview Animal Services joins statewide effort to find homes for 2,000 shelter pets

Crestview Animal Services will participate in a three-day adoption event aiming to place thousands of dogs and cats with new families.

Crestview Animal Services will join nearly 50 organizations across 31 Florida counties in a statewide adoption event aimed at finding homes for 2,000 shelter pets over three days.

  • The Petco Love Florida MEGA Pet Adoption Event will take place June 27-29 at Petco pet care centers and local animal shelters throughout Florida. The event is organized by Petco Love, a national nonprofit focused on animal welfare.

Florida ranks 46th nationally in saving the lives of pets in shelters, according to the most recent nationwide data. In 2024, 37,683 dogs and cats were euthanized in animal shelters across the state.

The 2024 version of the event found homes for 1,949 dogs and cats. This year’s expanded effort will feature thousands of pets available for adoption, all spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. Adoption fees will be waived, though some exclusions may apply.

“There is nothing more powerful than the moment a shelter pet meets their new family, and that’s the heart of this incredible statewide event,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “By uniting animal welfare organizations across Florida, we’re not only finding homes for pets, we’re creating thousands of new beginnings filled with hope, healing, and unconditional love.”

Lindsay Garrett, civilian operations manager at the City of Crestview, said the city is excited to participate in the effort to reduce shelter populations statewide.

  • “We are so thrilled to be a part of the Petco Mega Adoption Event,” Garrett said. “This is a great way to try and empty the shelters in not only our region but our state.”

Locally, pets will be available at two locations. Crestview Animal Services at 715 N. Ferdon Blvd. will host adoptions Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A separate adoption event will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hajdi Temple Shrine Center, 800 W. Nine Mile Road in Pensacola.

Information about the event is available at megaadoptflorida.com and on social media at @MegaAdoptFlorida on Facebook and Instagram.

The Florida MEGA Adoption Event is funded by Petco Love for the Jacksonville Humane Society and facilitated by JHS’s Florida Leaders in Lifesaving program.
