A person died early Saturday morning after allegedly pointing a firearm at a Crestview Police Officer following a nearly three-hour standoff, according to the Crestview Police Department.
Officers reportedly discovered a suspicious vehicle at a closed business near the 1600 block of South Ferdon Boulevard just before 2 a.m. Saturday, the department said in a news release.
- When officers made contact with the subject, police say they determined the person was armed with a firearm and making suicidal statements.
For nearly three hours, officers attempted to peacefully resolve the situation by speaking with the subject, according to police. The standoff ended when the subject allegedly pointed a firearm at an officer, leading to an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the subject’s death, the department said.
No officers were injured during the incident, police said.
The Crestview Police Department has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conduct an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting, following departmental procedure. The department said it will refer any future inquiries to FDLE.
