Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed former Sen. Doug Broxson to the Board of Governors of the State University System, the governor’s office announced Monday.
- Broxson, who served in the Florida Legislature for 14 years, worked with DeSantis on education initiatives during his tenure. He represented districts in the Florida House from 2010 to 2016 and in the Florida Senate from 2016 to 2024.
“As a leader in education reform, Senator Doug Broxson has stood by my side as we acted to support parental rights, eliminate DEI, reform tenure, and invest in teacher salaries,” DeSantis said. “I am proud to appoint Senator Broxson to the Board of Governors and I know he will continue his great work to ensure Florida remains the number one state in the country for higher education.”
During his time in the Senate, Broxson held leadership positions including chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He also worked on tort reform efforts aimed at lowering home and auto insurance premiums for Florida residents.
- Broxson is president of Doug Broxson Insurance and is active in the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club and the Florida Association of Insurance Agents. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Evangel University.
He replaces Patricia Frost, who has served on the board since 2010. DeSantis thanked Frost for her service to the State University System.
The appointment requires confirmation by the Florida Senate.
