FORT WALTON: “Standing water could also be contaminated with wastewater”

September 16, 2020 by Jared Williams

As Hurricane Sally continues to hit the Panhandle, the city of Fort Walton Beach, along with local law enforcement, are asking residents to stay off of the roads.

Power lines and trees are down across our area making it dangerous to be on the roads. Many roadways are flooded.

“This standing water could also be contaminated with wastewater, creating additional health and safety hazards,” said the city in a press release. “City first responders and emergency crews are assessing damages this morning. Please stay home. Call 911 if you have an emergency.”

Storm debris: The city is asking residents to NOT place storm debris by the road at this time. Rain and winds continue to affect our area and could make curbside debris a hazard.

Garbage Service: Conditions have prevented pickup today. Schedules will be released for pickup as soon as all assessments have been made.
