Harbor Docks Charities will host its 30th Annual Take-A-Kid-Fishing Day on Sunday, November 2, offering 300 children ages 7 to 13 a free fishing experience aboard Destin charter boats.

  • The event will take children fishing in the Gulf and Choctawhatchee Bay aboard charter boats, with off-duty law enforcement officers and firefighters from Destin and Fort Walton Beach serving as chaperones along with other Harbor Docks Charities volunteers.

Over the past 29 years, thousands of area children have participated in the annual fishing event, many of whom do not often get the opportunity to fish in local waters.

Reservations for the free fishing trip will be accepted beginning Wednesday, October 1, until all slots are filled. Parents can call Harbor Docks at 850-837-2506 between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and ask for Jackie Lavin to make reservations or obtain additional information. Email reservations are also accepted.

Pre-registration is required. Parents must provide each child’s name and age, along with the parent’s name and phone number. Group reservations are available, and parent release forms will be emailed upon request.

  • The event will operate in two sessions. The first group of approximately 150 children will sign in at 7 a.m., with boats departing at 7:30 a.m. and returning roughly four hours later. The second group will sign in at 8 a.m. and board boats at 8:30 a.m., returning at 1 p.m.

Participants will meet downstairs at Harbor Docks Restaurant for breakfast consisting of orange juice and donuts before boarding. All children will receive a t-shirt, rod and reel, and a family fish fry.

Teachers, first responders and firefighters interested in volunteering or chaperoning can contact Jackie at Harbor Docks at 850-837-2506.
