Are you a life-long local, and if not, where are you from originally and how did you end up in the area?
I was born at what is now HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital and grew up in Niceville. Aside from a four-year stint in Pensacola while earning my Communications and Advertising degree from the University of West Florida, Okaloosa and Walton counties have always been home.
What’s your current job title and where do you work?
Public Relations, Okaloosa Gas District.
What’s your morning routine?
My morning routine varies depending on the day’s schedule, but I always start with a protein shake and a quick review of my meetings to get organized. I’ll admit I’m guilty of hitting the snooze button way more times than I should…probably not the healthiest habit, but part of my routine nonetheless! Once my day is going I’m ready to jump into it focused and prepared.

Describe what a typical workday looks like for you.
No two days are alike in public relations, and that variety is what I love about my work. I manage media requests, press communications, extensive community initiatives, and The District’s social media channels, while collaborating with our marketing team on advertising and strategic planning alongside our CEO and VP of Marketing while representing Okaloosa Gas throughout our local business community.
I’m honored to serve as the 2025 Chairman of the Board for the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce, leading a stellar board of directors and partnering with the talented chamber staff to foster local business growth. The variety keeps things exciting, and every day brings new opportunities to connect, create, and make an impact across Okaloosa, Walton, and Santa Rosa counties.
I thrive on the energy of a fast-paced environment and enjoy finding creative ways to bring people and ideas together.
What’s the first thing you do when you get to work (or start your workday)?
The first thing I do when I start my workday is check The District’s social media pages for comments, messages, and new posts – often multiple times a day. From there, I review emails and texts, catch up on phone calls and prioritize any urgent requests. Starting the day this way helps me stay organized and ready to tackle whatever the day throws my way.
What tools, apps, or gadgets can’t you live without?
My phone is definitely my lifeline; I’m connected no matter where the day takes me. I also rely on a few key internal tools like Microsoft Teams and apps (thank you, Canva Pro!) that help me keep projects moving smoothly. These are integral while transitioning between meetings, emails, and events – while maintaining a little sense of sanity intact.
Apple or Android?
Apple.
What’s your go-to coffee (or tea) order?
Iced Brown Sugar Oat milk Shaken Espresso – light ice.
What’s your go-to lunch spot or work snack?
I never pass up a meal at Brotula’s!
What’s one local business you love supporting?
Katie’s House of Flowers in Niceville has been a cherished part of our community for years. They offer not only beautiful plants and flower arrangements, but also a thoughtfully curated gift shop that often showcases local artists. I love supporting a business that makes every visit a memorable experience.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
One piece of career advice that’s stayed with me is if you’re not taking risks or challenging yourself, you’re not truly growing. Early on, a mentor encouraged me to embrace opportunities even if success wasn’t guaranteed – and to not be afraid of making mistakes along the way.
That mindset has helped me tackle new challenges with confidence, learn from every experience, and keep my career exciting while leading initiatives with curiosity and purpose.

If you could give your 20-year-old self a piece of advice, what would it be?
I’d tell her to seek out a trustworthy mentor early on. Having someone experienced to guide you, offer perspective, and challenge you in the right ways can make a world of difference in your personal and professional growth. Looking back, the mentors I’ve had have helped me navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and professionally grow in ways I couldn’t have done alone.
How do you unwind after a long day?
After a long day, I like to unwind outside, spending time with the cutest dog you’ve ever seen, Pippi (yes, as in Longstocking)! With a cold beverage of course. It’s my way to pause, soak up the last of the day’s sunshine, and let the stress melt away. Taking these moments to relax helps me recharge and stay energized for whatever comes next.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I helped unveil the Atlanta Braves’ 2003 National League East Division pennant at Turner Field alongside (at the time, future) Hall of Famer John Smoltz.
What’s your favorite local event or tradition?
Everything with live music. OH! And the mac-n-cheese festival.
What’s inspiring you right now (book, podcast, person, hobby)?
I’m inspired by opportunities to learn and grow. I’m not currently hooked on a specific podcast; I consider myself an enthusiast and enjoy exploring new ideas whenever I get the chance. If there’s a true crime podcast out there, I’ve likely listened. I also find creative outlets in painting and writing. Maybe one of these days I’ll share my work and even get something published.
Early bird or night owl?
Night. Owl. 1,000,000%!
Music while working — yes or no?
I don’t usually listen to music while working – lyrics tend to distract me. When I do, it’s something calming like Peaceful Meditation on Spotify.
Favorite motivational quote?
You can’t discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore. – Andre Gide

Standing desk or sitting? Mix?
I’m constantly moving from meeting to meeting and connecting with people, so when I finally make it to my desk, I happily take a seat! It’s my chance to catch my breath and focus before the next whirlwind begins.
If you could give any advice for someone getting into the same field as you, what advice would you give?
If you’re getting into public relations, my advice is simple: stay curious, take risks, and focus on building genuine relationships. Be adaptable, learn constantly, and don’t be afraid to step into new challenges. These challenges are the experiences that will shape your growth and success throughout your career.
