The Okaloosa County School District announced Wednesday its winners in the 2025-2026 Art in the Capitol Competition, a statewide visual arts contest for students in grades 6-8.
- Hannah Leitheiser from Liza Jackson Preparatory School took Best in Show honors and will represent Okaloosa County with her piece at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee during the 2026 Legislative Session. Her teacher is Eden Preston.
Other district winners include first place winner Olivia McClain from Lewis School, taught by Lindsey Gafford; second place winner Ahymn Kim from Ruckel Middle School, taught by Gina Watson; and third place winner Emma Hilleary, also from Ruckel Middle School and taught by Watson.
“Our middle school students continue to amaze us with their incredible talent and imagination,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “We’re so proud of Hannah and all our student artists who represented Okaloosa County in this year’s Art in the Capitol Competition. Their work reflects not only their skill but also the support and inspiration they receive from our outstanding art teachers.”
The Florida Legislature established the Art in the Capitol Competition to showcase the artistic achievements of middle school students from across the state.
Each district’s winning artwork is displayed in the Capitol during the regular legislative session, providing lawmakers and visitors with an opportunity to appreciate Florida’s young artists.
