Okaloosa County has begun installing yellow bollards at strategic locations along the Bridge-to-Bridge multi-use path on Okaloosa Island to prevent vehicles from driving on the pedestrian and cycling route.
- The protective posts are being placed at all three federal beach access points, Beasley Park and the Tourist Development Department office, according to county officials.
This installation follows recent concerns about motorists driving and parking on the unfinished path that will eventually connect the Brooks Bridge in Fort Walton Beach to the Marler Bridge in Destin.
The county previously issued warnings asking the public to stay off the path while it remains under construction. The approximately 4-mile pedestrian and cycling route features photoluminescent paving that will glow in the dark when completed.

The $3.7 million infrastructure project was approved by the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners in May 2024 to improve safety along Highway 98, where pedestrians and cyclists have faced dangerous conditions in the past.
Beach access parking areas remain open for public use, but vehicles are prohibited from the path itself. The project is scheduled for completion in spring or early summer 2025.

Now that Ms. Ketchel has torn down more dunes, plus paved over what was beautiful sand, golf carts can drive from one end to the other. No way to cross Marler or Brooks bridges. How much fun will users have going back and forth 4 miles…$3.9 million dollars of fun?
