Summer House Lifestyle, a premier interior design studio and lifestyle boutique, is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its new location in Watersound Town Center after relocating from Uptown Grayton Beach.

  • The firm, founded by designer Melissa Skowlund, has moved to a 4,100-square-foot space that substantially expands its retail footprint and adds an attached design bar for client consultations.

“We want to provide an experience that is more than just a storefront, but rather a place that helps to create beauty large or small in the lives of our customers,” said Skowlund. “Watersound is the perfect location for our existing clientele and offers them an all-in-one experience within the town center.”

The move comes after 12 years at the company’s previous location. Skowlund cited proximity to growing communities like Watersound Origins and Camp Creek as key factors in selecting the new site, noting opportunities for new design projects in these areas.

Summer House Lifestyle’s portfolio spans from Gulf-front properties along 30A to homes in metropolitan areas including Washington D.C., New York and Wisconsin. Skowlund’s work includes a Nashville horse farm estate, a Park City ski home, and a waterfront property in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The company has also completed commercial projects locally, including Alys Beach’s Fonville Press.

  • “We’ve had the honor of working on some amazing projects and partnering with a talented team of sub-contractors and local vendors who help make our clients’ visions come to life,” Skowlund said.

The new retail space is organized by room, allowing customers to experience fully styled spaces that reflect the firm’s signature aesthetic of timeless elegance.

  • “Whether you’re redesigning a single space or furnishing an entire home, our boutique offers an immersive, room-by-room experience that helps you see all possibilities,” Skowlund said.

The boutique features a range of home furnishings including white linen couches, woven textiles, natural stone pieces and wallpaper selections. The store also carries clothing and accessories from brands such as Anna Beck Jewelry, Autumn Cashmere, Brochu Walker and Krewe Eyewear. Recent additions include Ann Mashburn and Karen Adams Designs.

Skowlund emphasizes a design philosophy centered on sophisticated aesthetics that complement clients’ personal tastes rather than chasing trends.

  • “We want to help clients achieve a level of sophistication and beauty that compliments their personal taste without feeling as though they need to go over the top to do so or adhere to industry trends that will quickly change,” she said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, at 4 p.m., followed by a grand opening celebration featuring refreshments and giveaways. The public is invited to attend.

Summer House Lifestyle is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit here
