Councilman Skip Overdier resigned from the Destin City Council on April 30th, 2021, due to selling his home within the city limits of Destin. He will relocate to Texas.

Overdier was elected to the city council in 2018 and served on multiple local and regional committees.

“I’ll always treasure the time I spent here and hope each and every one of you continue to do the good things you do for this community,” said Overdier. “It’s folks like you that make this the special place that it is.”

“Skip has served the community well and it was a pleasure serving alongside him,” said Destin City Manager, Lance Johnson. “He always worked with council and staff for the betterment of this city, and we will miss his leadership.”

Overdier’s term ends in November 2022 and the Destin City Council Is now seeking applications to fill the vacancy. Destin’s City Charter states that when a council seat is vacated a new member must be elected no sooner than 60 days and no longer than 90 days from the date it becomes empty.

The Destin City Council will appoint one person on an interim basis to fill the Council seat. The individual appointed will serve on the Council until a permanent member is elected during a special election on July 20th, 2021.

The deadline to submit an application is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12th, 2021. Applicants must live within the city limits of Destin and must be eligible to vote.  City Council Candidate Application Forms are available online at www.cityofdestin.com/interimcc or by contacting the Destin City Clerk at 850.837.4242.
