Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field are assessing whether there is enough community interest to reestablish a Restoration Advisory Board to discuss environmental cleanup projects at the military installations.
- The Air Force is asking residents to contact Environmental Restoration by June 13, 2025, to indicate their interest in participating in the advisory board or attending its meetings. Those interested can call (850) 882-7792 or email AFCEC.CZOE.RAB@us.af.mil.
A Restoration Advisory Board, known as a RAB, is a community group that meets to discuss and receive information on environmental restoration projects at military bases. The board facilitates communication between the military base, the public, regulators, local governments and interest groups on cleanup activities.
RABs provide a structured opportunity for community stakeholders to participate in the cleanup process, allowing local residents to receive information from and exchange details with the base and regulatory agencies managing environmental cleanup projects.
The advisory boards review and comment on cleanup documents and activities, serve as a liaison to share cleanup information with the community, and provide a forum to exchange information about the schedule, type and status of cleanup activities.
- RAB meetings allow members and community residents to receive updates and ask questions about the environmental cleanup program.
While RABs are not decision-making bodies, they give local community members the opportunity to have their voices heard and provide valuable community insight to base and regulatory agencies managing cleanup projects at Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field.
