The Okaloosa County School District celebrated five graduates of its Okaloosa Unique Professionals program Thursday, recognizing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who completed specialized career training.
- William Shoebrook, Ken Edwards, Paul Wade, Lindsey Trippe and Miranda Rouissin finished the May 22 ceremony after earning occupational completion points, career certificates and industry certifications.
Each student completed the Specialized Career Instruction course and earned a Unique Professional Certificate while pursuing additional certifications through Career and Technical Education coursework.
The program provided hands-on experience in carpentry and culinary labs, helping students build employability skills including teamwork, budgeting, time management and initiative.
- “This program empowers students with the skills and confidence to thrive beyond graduation,” Superintendent Marcus Chambers said. “Their dedication and perseverance set a shining example, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.”
Industry partners supported the students’ development, including Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Resort on Okaloosa Island, Salvation Army, Dewey Destin’s Navarre, Pink Coyote Dessert Company, Perfect Blend Coffee Company, Career Source, Vocational Rehabilitation, Odom Hotels, Emerald Coast Development Center and JRS Coffee.
Many graduates have secured employment or plan to continue their education, according to the district.
Okaloosa UP provides specialized career instruction for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering training and individualized support to develop specific career skills.
