Hurlburt Field officials announced Wednesday that all visitors requesting access to the Air Force base will need to present a REAL ID-compliant form of identification beginning May 7.
- The new requirement, detailed in a media advisory from the 1st Special Operations Wing Public Affairs Office, applies to all individuals seeking base access, including guests sponsored by active duty personnel.
REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses can be identified by a star in the upper right-hand corner of the ID.
Visitors without a REAL ID may still gain access by presenting alternative documentation. Acceptable alternatives include a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) used together with a non-compliant driver’s license. Both documents must bear the same name and similar photograph.
- Another option is to present an original or certified true copy of a birth certificate with a raised seal, a social security card, and a non-compliant driver’s license. All three documents must have matching names or documentation of a legal name change.
The advisory notes that other acceptable forms of identification include Department of Defense common access cards, military retiree or dependent IDs, local DOD access cards and passes, U.S. or foreign passports, federal personal identity verification cards, and non-federal PIV-interoperable cards.
Florida residents requesting access to the Gator Lakes golf course will also need to present a REAL ID to be granted a Hurlburt Field Golf Affidavit.
- Those requesting access without REAL ID-compliant credentials or an acceptable alternative will be denied unescorted access to the installation.
