Liza Jackson Preparatory School in Fort Walton Beach has appointed Mrs. Cathy Dewrell as its new principal following the retirement announcement of the current principal.
- In a letter to parents dated May 16, Principal McKinley announced the decision to retire at the end of the school year.
“After much reflection and with a deep sense of gratitude, I have decided to retire from my role as principal at the end of this school year,” McKinley wrote to parents and guardians. “This has not been an easy decision, as serving as principal of Liza Jackson has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life.”
McKinley expressed appreciation for the school community’s support and emphasized the connection with students.
- “I will most especially miss the kids. They are why I look forward to coming to school every single day,” McKinley stated in the letter.
The school announced Dewrell’s appointment on Facebook Wednesday, May 28.
Dewrell brings extensive experience to the role, having started at Liza Jackson in 2011 and working in education since 1995. She holds a Master of Science in Education from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Huntingdon College.
According to the school’s announcement, Dewrell is married to her husband Bobby and has two children who are alumni of Liza Jackson Preparatory School.
“With a deep passion for education and a heart for students, Mrs. Dewrell brings a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the continued success of LJPS,” the school stated in its Facebook announcement.
