Northwest Florida State College will introduce local middle and high school students to in-demand career fields through its Futures Forward summer camp this June, offering hands-on experiences across seven technical disciplines.
- The $100 program, targeting students in grades 8-12, will run in two four-day sessions at four NWFSC locations. The camp focuses on developing entrepreneurial skills while providing practical training in high-growth career fields.
“This camp is more than just a summer activity — it’s a stepping stone into future careers,” said Rhonda Springfield, NWFSC Executive Director of K-12 Programs and Campus Engagement. “We’re giving students access to technology, tools, and mentors that will spark curiosity and fuel innovation.”
Several specialized tracks are available, including artificial intelligence, carpentry, cybersecurity, and a new esports program featuring Marvel Rivals. The healthcare-focused “Scrubs Camp” will introduce students to nursing, medical lab technology, physical therapy and radiography careers.
College officials report three programs – Aviation, Marine Science, and Welding Technology – have already sold out.
- “The interest we’re seeing demonstrates the demand for career exploration opportunities among local students,” Springfield said.
The first session runs June 9-12, with a second session following June 16-19. Each program operates Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Registration is available online on a first-come, first-served basis, with all payments required at the time of registration. The college is accepting credit or debit cards only, with a 3% processing fee applied.
Northwest Florida State College operates seven campuses and centers across the region, serving approximately 16,000 students annually with associate and bachelor’s degree programs along with certificates and diplomas.
