The Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners will celebrate the opening of the Bridge-to-Bridge Multi-Use Path on Okaloosa Island with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Oct. 23, at 9 a.m. at Beasley Park.
- The approximately 4-mile, 12-foot-wide path connects the Brooks Bridge and the Marler Bridge, providing a pedestrian and cycling route along Highway 98 in Destin-Fort Walton Beach. The path features photoluminescent materials that will allow it to glow at night.
“We can now enjoy a pedestrian-friendly area along this beautiful stretch of Northwest Florida between Destin and Fort Walton Beach,” said Okaloosa County Commissioner Carolyn Ketchel. “I truly appreciate the dedication of our Public Works team as they continue to foster great working relationships with Eglin Air Force Base.”

The project includes improvements to beach access parking areas with a more solid base and bollards installed at strategic locations for added safety. The connection to the Brooks Bridge will be complete once bridge construction is finished.
- “This is a great example of how we are improving recreation and supporting healthy lifestyles in Okaloosa County,” said Okaloosa County Board Chairman Paul Mixon. “We appreciate our state legislators who helped fund this effort that will provide a lasting benefit for Okaloosa residents and visitors.”
Attendees at the ribbon-cutting ceremony are encouraged to walk or ride bicycles on the path after the event. Funding for the construction comes from multiple sources, including tourism revenue, a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation and a private donor.

When will the police stop cars from driving and parking on the path?
Now that these two pet projects (Women’s Veteran Memorial Park and Bike Path) are complete, can the Okaloosa County Commissioners focus on returning the western pass shoreline (RedNeck beach) back to the locals. You can address Eglin’s safety concerns by expanding the parking lot at Eglin’s Beach club and putting in a walkpath to the shoreline. Remember Eglin is managing our, the taxpayers’, land. Use of this land by locals will not impact Eglin’s mission nor cause a security concern. This will fit right in with Mr Mixon’s comments about “…improving recreation and supporting healthy lifestyles”!
I and many of my friends are very happy to see this multi use path come to florician. I’ve ridden it several times on my bike over the last 7 weeks. What a great addition to our community.
I plan to attend the “ribbon cutting” on the 23d and have forwarded the information to many friends.
I’ve read countless comments from negative people, but I won’t go there, I’m a positive guy.
