A Crestview High School teacher was arrested Tuesday morning on charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with a student that occurred more than two decades ago.
- Timothy John Sexton, 58, faces charges of sexual battery by a person in custodial authority and sexual battery with a victim between 12-18 years of age. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says Sexton reportedly had a sexual relationship with a student between April 2001 and July 2005, when the victim was between 14 and 17 years old.
Sexton was taken into custody at his home on Jeff Drive in Crestview by members of the OCSO and the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force. He currently teaches at Crestview High School and previously taught at Pryor Middle School.
The investigation began after the OCSO and Okaloosa County School District received a FortifyFL tip in late March 2025. Through interviews with the victim and witnesses, investigators say they obtained enough evidence for probable cause to arrest Sexton.
“There is no expiration date on seeking justice for victims,” said Sheriff Eric Aden. “This arrest underscores our unwavering commitment to pursuing the truth, no matter how much time has passed. We are proud of the work done by our investigators and encourage anyone who has been a victim to come forward.”
The school district immediately notified the Florida Department of Children and Families and the sheriff’s office upon receiving the report. Sexton had been placed on administrative leave following the district’s receipt of the FortifyFL report.
- “Our teachers are held to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity when it comes to the safety and well-being of our students,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “The overwhelming majority of our employees come to work each day to make a positive impact in the lives of our students and consistently meet and exceed these expectations. However, when an individual fails to uphold those standards, it deeply affects our entire school community.”
According to school board policy, Sexton will be recommended for suspension without pay pending the outcome of criminal court proceedings. Chambers called the situation “a zero-tolerance issue” and said the district will “respond swiftly and appropriately” if the allegations are substantiated.
Sexton is being held at the Okaloosa County Jail with no bond.
