Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy Connor Detweiler successfully solved the theft of two jet skis from local businesses, with the stolen watercraft valued at approximately $26,000.
- Detweiler conducted a thorough investigation over several days, collecting surveillance footage and developing suspect descriptions. He submitted this information to Criminal Analysts for Attempts to Identify (ATI) for distribution throughout Okaloosa County.
As he gathered additional information and surveillance footage, Detweiler recognized the subject as someone he had previous contact with several weeks before the incident. He reviewed his body worn camera footage and established the suspect’s identity. This proved crucial to the investigation since the subject was a vagrant from Virginia with almost no prior interactions with local law enforcement.
After reviewing an End of Shift report, Detweiler discovered the suspect had recently been arrested near where the last jet ski was recovered for an unrelated burglary charge.
- Detweiler coordinated with another deputy to conduct an interview with the suspect. Through this collaboration, he established probable cause and submitted arrest reports, successfully closing both theft cases.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office awarded Detweiler a Certificate of Commendation for his investigative persistence, attention to detail and commitment to public service.
