When a local woman took a tumble and injured herself while walking her son’s dog one recent night, her granddog became her lifeline to help.
- The woman’s husband called the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office after she hadn’t returned from what should have been a 10- to 15-minute walk. More than an hour had passed.
“It’s over an hour now,” the husband told the responding deputy, explaining his wife had taken out the 100-pound dog.
As the deputy searched the Destin area neighborhood in her patrol car, Eeyore approached the vehicle. When the deputy asked, “Where’s your mama?” the dog led her directly to the injured woman lying on the ground.

- “I was right out here and then the dog ran up to me,” the deputy explained to the woman. “I said, ‘bring me to your mommy‘. And he ran back to you.”
The woman, alert and conscious, seemed surprised by her four-legged hero’s actions.
“He come up to your car?” she asked the deputy.

“He kept coming back to me,” the woman said, describing how Eeyore had stayed by her side.
The deputy called for emergency medical services to respond to the woman’s location.
“I’m not even his owner. I’m his grandmother,” the woman told the deputy, explaining her relationship to the dog.
Body camera footage captured the moment, ending with the woman praising her grand-dog: “Oh, Eeyore, you are a good boy. Grandma loves you.”

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office shared the edited body cam video on social media, noting that “sometimes heroes come with four legs and a wagging tail.”
