The new year marks a milestone for local non-profit organization the Emerald Coast Science Center. They will celebrate 30 years of inspiring and supporting science education as well as being a field trip that every student in Okaloosa County could count on! (I know I went a handful of times growing up!)

To commemorate this occasion the Emerald Coast Science Center will host a fundraiser on March 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. The 30th Anniversary Celebration will be complete with live music, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a silent auction.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 30 years on the Emerald Coast!”

Diane Fraser, Executive Director of the ECSC

“We are hoping this event brings together those that supported our mission in the beginning as well as those that are just learning about us. This celebration gives us an opportunity to showcase what we have to offer the community.”

Local artists have been commissioned to create artwork that expresses what “Science is” to them. Prints of the artwork will be on display throughout the Emerald Coast Science Center’s building and property for the duration of their 30th year on the Emerald Coast. The artwork will be available for purchase in a silent auction.

Founded in 1989 by the Junior League of the Emerald Coast, and then known as the FOCUS Center, the center was created to provide STEM education to children in Okaloosa County. The center changed its name in 2001 and has been growing steadily since that time. The Emerald Coast Science Center now occupies a 8,000 square foot building with over 45 exhibits and interactive activities.
