Walton County Sheriff’s Office detained three suspects in Cook County, Georgia, Thursday following a string of car burglaries and a shooting in Miramar Beach, authorities said.
- Deputies responded to a shooting around 1:15 a.m. Thursday off Holiday Road in Miramar Beach. The victim, visiting from Louisiana, was robbed and shot by someone matching the description of a car burglary suspect from incidents reported over the weekend, according to the report.
A sheriff’s sergeant and lieutenant arrived at the scene within minutes, provided aid to the victim and transported him to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office had been investigating numerous car burglaries along Highway 98 in several neighborhoods and business plazas from the Okaloosa County line to Grand Boulevard.
- Additional vehicle break-ins were reported early Thursday morning at a parking lot off Chat Holley and 331 S, as well as along the Highway 98 corridor west to Miramar Beach.
Crime analysts, patrol deputies and investigators identified a suspect vehicle fleeing shortly after the shooting incident and tracked it north. After a pursuit lasting several hours, the car was stopped in Cook County, Georgia, around 11:15 a.m.
Three people were detained, and Walton County Sheriff’s Office personnel have been sent to interview them. Authorities said more information will be released when available.
