On June 7, 2023, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies tracked down two people suspected of stealing a Destin woman’s electric scooter.

  • After the vehicle was located and stopped at 2001 Highway 20, Niceville, FL, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted in addition to revealing that the truck was stolen out of Mississippi.

During the search, a receipt from Bass Pro Shop located at 4301 Legendary Dr. Destin, FL, was found. The receipt was for the purchase of an Equinox X 650 with a total purchase amount of $181.89. It was discovered this purchase was made with the victim’s credit card.

According to the police report, both defendants stated during a post-Miranda interview that they had permission from the victim to use her card. The Victim, who resides in Mississippi, was contacted and was willing to press charges as she claims she did not give the pair permission to use the card.

The investigation is ongoing and at this time, 44-year old Joseph Middleton, Jr. and 34-year old Kelly Patterson are charged with fraudulent use of credit cards. They are also being held on a charge out of Mississippi for grand theft of a vehicle.
