Vikings’ signing day features 12 athletes across six programs

Twelve student-athletes from Fort Walton Beach High School made their college commitments official during a signing day ceremony held Monday.

  • The event featured athletes from six different sports signing with colleges ranging from community colleges to Division I universities.

Ross Mitchell led the ceremony with Principal Lindsey Smith and Athletic Director Holly McDaniel joining in the celebration of student accomplishments.

Anthony Gassaway signed to play football at Ripon College with Coach Josh Pulliam present for the announcement.

FWBHS

The swim team had two athletes sign: Cher Patrick committed to BYU, while Nolan Steele signed with Indian River. Coach Will Breehl represented the swimming program at the ceremony.

Two softball players made their commitments official as Hallie Smith signed with Thomas University and Alyx Hall with Hinds Community College. Coach Taryn Gray joined the athletes during their signing.

The track and field/cross country program had three athletes sign: Belicia O’Grady with Flagler, Charity Lobzun with Gulf Coast, and Makala Sims with the University of Montevallo. Coach Fields attended to support the runners.

Flag football was represented by two signees: Gabby Kruse, who committed to Lindsey Wilson, and Renee Bailey, who signed with John Melvin Christian College. Coach Johnson was present for their signings.

Rounding out the class were soccer players D’Angelo Sanchez, who signed with Webber International University, and Elijah Lacey, who committed to the University of West Alabama. Coach Mario attended to celebrate his athletes’ accomplishments.

Each athlete was called to the main table with their families and given an opportunity to speak during the ceremony, which concluded with closing remarks from Mitchell.
