The Okaloosa County School District announced that all North End schools will be closed on Friday, May 10, 2024, due to severe weather that swept through the county earlier this morning.

  • The storm caused widespread power outages and resulted in downed trees and power lines throughout the area.

According to the school district’s statement, issued at 8:05 a.m., the following schools will be closed for the day:

  • Antioch Elementary School
  • Baker School
  • Bob Sikes Elementary School
  • Crestview High School
  • Davidson Middle School
  • Laurel Hill School
  • Northwood Elementary School
  • Richbourg School
  • Riverside Elementary School
  • Shoal River Middle School
  • Southside Primary School
  • Walker Elementary School

While the North End schools remain closed, all Central and South Zone schools will be open but will start three hours later than their regular times to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The school district’s maintenance crews, administrators, and power providers are currently working together to restore power throughout the county. The district expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and understanding during this time.

  • “Weather can be tricky and pinpointing exact times and locations can be difficult,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “We communicate with the weather experts in order to make the right decisions. All decisions are made with the safety of our students, faculties and staff in mind.”

For further updates and information, parents and students are advised to stay tuned to official communication channels from the Okaloosa County School District.
